A little over six years after his first single Run It! (feat. Julez Santana) debuted and peaked at number two, Chris Brown racks up his 25th Top 75 single and first number one with Turn Up The Music. Debuting in pole position on sales of 83,777 copies, it is the introductory single from Brown's fifth album, Fortune - which is scheduled for release next month - and his 18th chart entry as primary artist. Perhaps surprisingly it is only the second number one to include music in its title, the other being Madonna's 2000 chart topper, Music.
Former Rihanna beau Brown's hit dethrones her best pal Katy Perry, whose Part Of Me dips to number four (52,752 sales) - its decline probably hastened by the release of Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection.
Sean Paul's She Doesn't Mind holds up better, remaining at number two, although its sales are off 10.96% week-on-week at 59,637.
Nicki Minaj's Starships got as high as number two a fortnight ago, and rebounds 5-3 this week, while recording its biggest weekly sale yet - 53,827. It is now the third Minaj single to sell upwards of 300,000 copies, with a to date tally of 319,452. Ahead of it lie her 2011 singles Where Them Girls At, a collaboration with David Guetta and Flo Rida, which reached number three and has sold 461,277 copies; and Super Bass, which got to number eight and has sold 502,124 copies.
Somebody That I Used To Know dips 3-5 for Gotye feat. Kimbra but tops the 50,000 sales mark for the ninth straight week, shifting a further 51,554 copies to raise its career sales to 748,659.
Rapper Plan B registers his fourth Top 10 entry, debuting at number six (37,455 sales) with Ill Manors, the title track of his upcoming album, which also serves as the soundtrack to his film of the same name.
In a singles chart with few significant movers, there are Top 40 debuts for The Vaccines' If You Wanna (number 35, 8,703 sales), Fever by B Traits feat. Elisabeth Troy (number 36, 8,647 sales), and Oh My Goodness, which jumps 48-28 (10,374 sales) in its quest to become the third straight number one from Olly Murs' current album, In Case You Didn't Know. The album itself eases 22-23 but the 5,836 copies it sold last week put it fractionally ahead of Murs' self-titled debut album. In Case You Didn't Know has sold 725,988 copies, just 467 more than Olly Murs.
Formerly number one in her Canadian homeland, and currently number one in Australia, Ireland and New Zealand, Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe is likely to top the UK chart next weekend. It was available briefly at the start of the year, reaching number 130 and selling 3,188 copies but was then withdrawn until last Sunday (1st April). In its absence, some 23 cover versions shared sales of over 22,000. Two of them simultaneously enter the Top 75 this week: Carly Rae Jepson Tribute Team debut at number 49 (6,149 sales), and The Hit Masters debut at number 72 (4,281 sales). Hits Now's version climbs 178-103 (2,774 sales) while Here's My Number's version debuts at number 118 (2,193 sales).
Overall singles sales are up 3.55% week-on-week at 3,213,516 - 1.96% above same week 2011 sales of 3,151,630.

MDNA - Madonna's first album for Interscope after more than a quarter of a century as a Warner Music artist - debuts at number one this week with some ease: sales of 56,335 copies are 155.84% higher than David Guetta's Nothing But The Beat, which continues at number two on sales of 22,020 copies.
MDNA is Madonna's 11th or 12th number one album depending on your point of view - she was, of course, the main but not the only artist on the Evita soundtrack, which hit the summit in 1996. Count MDNA as her 12th number one album, and she ahead of Elvis Presley as the solo artist with most number ones. otherwise she’s equal with Presley as the top solo artist. The Beatles remain the top artists overall, with 15 number ones.
Although it was way too strong for the opposition last week, MDNA sold considerably fewer copies on its first week than Madonna's last studio album, Hard Candy, which sold 94,655 copies on its May 2008 debut, itself falling far short of the career best 217,610 copies its predecessor Confessions On The Dance Floor sold on its 2005 debut.
MDNA replaces Paul Weller's Sonik Kicks- which slides to number 10 (11,520 sales), suffering the eighth biggest retreat from the summit in the 21st century - at number one. Both artists are 53 (Weller is the older by 85 days) and it is the first time in chart history that consecutive number ones have been by acts over 50. Madonna also becomes the second oldest female solo artist to have a number one album with new studio recordings, trailing only Barbra Streisand, who was 67 when she topped with Love Is The Answer in 2009. Madonna replaces Susan Boyle, who was 50 when she had her second number one album, Someone To Watch Over Me last year.
Although more than half of her career to date took place in the last century century, Madonna is far from a 21st century slouch. MDNA is her sixth number one since 2000, a total equalled by Westlife and Eminem and surpassed only by Robbie Williams (seven). Williams' total rises to eight if we add Take That's last album, Progress, and Eminem's is seven if we add his D12 chart-topper, D12 World. Madonna albums don't stay long at number one these days, however, and she has spent only eight weeks at the summit this century, a total surpassed by 15 other acts, with Robbie Williams (24 weeks in solo capacity), Eminem (23) and Adele (22) leading the way. Madonna albums do tend to stay around, however and the 337 weeks she has spent in the Top 75 this century place her ninth in the longevity list. Pink - fifth overall - is the only woman with more weeks on the list (372), which is led by Coldplay (436), Take That (389) and Robbie Williams (382).
Madonna is also one of the biggest selling acts of the 21st century, with sales up to Saturday 25 March (hey, these things take time to work out!) of 7,279,423. Ahead of her lie Robbie Williams (14,043,554), Westlife (11,703,404), Coldplay (10,723,737), Take That (10,698,446), Eminem (8,764,179 solo, plus 725,957 with D12), Michael Jackson (8,560,586 solo, plus 404,358 with the Jacksons/Jackson 5), and Michael Buble (7,864,929). That's enough to make her the top female solo artist, ahead of Adele (6,250,566), Pink (6,235,719), Dido (6,192,295) and Rihanna (5,860,745). If you think Lady Gaga should be in the list, think again - her sales to date are 3,892,092. Incidentally, her second album, Born This Way, ends its initial 44 week run in the Top 75 this week, slipping 56-79 (1,840 sales).
MDNA is not the only Madonna album to enter the Top 75 this week. The Complete Studio Albums 1983-2008 - a Maverick/Warner Bros./Sire/Rhino box set housing her 11 previous regular albums - debuts at number 70 (2,055 sales).
Classical tenor Noah Stewart and hard rock band Shinedown both make their chart debuts this week. Stewart's debut album, Noah, debuts at number 14 (7,877 sales), while Shinehead's fourth album Amaryllis flowers with a number 18 debut (6,598 sales). Two more hard rock outfits return to the chart with new concert offerings - Florida's Alter Bridge are in the Top 75 for the third time, debuting at number 31 (4,304 sales) with Live At Wembley: European Tour 2011, while the UK's own Iron Maiden enter at number 19 (6,576 sales) with En Vivo!, recorded in Chile last year. En Vivo is Iron Maiden's 39th album chart entry since their 1980 debut - a record for a heavy metal band - and their eighth with a live set.
Oklahoma rock band The All-American Rejects debut at number 34 (3,886 sales) with their fourth album, Kids In The Street. None of the band's first three albums made the Top 40, though all came close: their self-titled 2003 debut reached number 50; 2005's Move Along peaked at number 50; and When The World Comes Down got to number 48 in 2008.
Also new just outside the Top 40 this week: Welsh composer Karl Jenkins's new choral work, The Peacemakers, debuts at number 49 (2,895 sales), and features vocals from Rundfunkchor Berlin, The City Of Birmingham Youth Chorus and the aptly-named Really Big Chorus, made up of 1,000 choir members from all over the UK. On a pro rata basis, that's less than three sales for each band member.
Katy Perry's Teenage Dream rockets 34-6 (13,178 sales), achieving its highest chart position for 75 weeks, after the release of the new Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection edition, which adds three new songs, including Part Of Me, and a megamix.
Sales of Jessie J's Who You Are also soar, as that album sprints 23-5. Selling 14,108 copies last week to lift its 57 week career tally to 957,180, the album is doubtless benefitting from Jessie's new role as a coach on BBC hit talent show The Voice, and contestant J Marie Cooper's rendition of Jessie's album track, Mamma Knows Best, which also gains enough impetus to make its singles chart debut at number 59 (5,226 sales), thus becoming the seventh hit from the album.
Overall album sales are up 3.55% week-on-week at 1,549.889 - a massive 36.95% below same week 2011 sales of 2,457,831, which were inflated by Mother's Day gift-buying.
