Red Hot Chili Peppers are to perform a free concert for US President Barack Obama's supporters.

The 'Californication' band will headline a gig at the House of Blues in Cleveland on Sunday (April 15) for the president's Northern Ohio campaign volunteers.

The free show will mark the first time that the Chili Peppers have offered support for Obama's re-election bid, reports Cleveland.com.

Red Hot Chili Peppers will be in Cleveland this weekend for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside Guns N' Roses and the Beastie Boys.

The Anthony Kiedis-led band will be touring North America this spring and summer, before heading off to Europe for a series of concerts in June.

They will also headline Lollapalooza with Black Sabbath and Florence + the Machine at Chicago's Grant Park in August.
