MDNA's opening week sales are the star's highest since 2000's Music, which debuted at number one with 420,000 copies shifted.
The performer's eighth US number one album places her behind Barbra Streisand in the record for most chart-topping albums by a female artist. Streisand holds the record with nine number ones in total.
