Fewer than 200 sales prevented The X Factor from providing the Christmas number one single and album for only the second time in its history. The popular ITV talent contest's new champion, Sam Bailey, duly debuts atop the singles chart less than a week after becoming the 10th winner of the competition. Bidding for his third number one hit of the year and his first in a solo capacity, Pharrell Williams improves 4-2 with Happy (63,858), jumping over 2006 X Factor winner Leona Lewis' Christmas single One More Sleep, which holds at number three (44,642 sales) even as parent album Christmas With Love dips 13-15 (34,608 sales). The most successful of the many Facebook spoiler campaigns aimed at denying Sam Bailey the number one slot was that for veteran hard rock band AC/DC's Highway To Hell. Number 56 in 1979 in its original studio version and number 14 in a live version in 1992, it also reached number 40 last December, following the release of AC/DC's catalogue in new remasters. It tops all those positions this week, re-entering the chart at number four (43,093 sales). Rave duo Altern 8's 1991 number three hit Activ8 (Come With Me) also garners enough Facebook support to return to the Top 40 at number 33 (9,810 sales). Avicii's Hey Brother falls 2-5, despite increasing sales for the seventh week in a row to a new high of 42,010. Parent album True climbs the chart and increases sales for the fifth consecutive occasion, jumping 41-34 (19,055 sales). It sold more copies only when debuting 13 weeks ago at number two. Ellie Goulding's How Long Will I Love You also increases sales, while falling 5-7 (35,248 sales). Completing the Top 10, Lily Allen's Somewhere Only We Know slides 1-6 (37,714 sales), Jason DeRulo's Trumpets are muted 7-8 (29,504 sales) and Eminem's The Monster (feat. Rihanna) revives 10-9 (25,711 sales), swapping places with One Direction's Story Of My Life (24,376 sales). Overall singles sales increased 9.88% week-on-week to 3,093,381 - 18.89% below same week 2012 sales of 3,813,716.
