albums with sales gains this week    platina.gif (124 Byte) albums with global sales of 2 million copies

The completely surprising release of the new Beyoncé album was a big story in the media last week. Now it jumps easily atop the global album chart with massive 746.000 copies sold, 617.000 of it in the USA alone. Initially available only digitally since Friday, December 13, the start sales of many countries are reflected on next week's chart (like Germany or Australia). Beyoncé ends the two week reign of One Direction's 'Midnight Memories', which slides one slot at no.2 now, despite another hugh 419.000 sales. In its three weeks on the tally it sold more than 2 million copies. Robbie Williams turns back at no.3 in the fourth week on the list with 'Swing Both Ways' and 240.000 sales. Eminem's 'The Marshall Mathers
LP 2' sinks at no.4 with 226.000 sales, a total of 2,67 million after six weeks. Daft Punk's 'Random Access Memories' is outside the Top 40 since weeks, but now it breaks through the 3 million border. It's only the third album this year, which reaches that level, after Justin Timberlake's 'The 20 / 20 Experience' (3,74 million) and Bruno Mars' 'Unorthodox Jukebox' (3,92 million this year). At the end of 2013 'Unorthodox' will be the only album with sales more than 4 million during this year, an alarmingly low! Back to the current tally, where the South Korean boy-group Exo lands at no.5 with 'Winter Special Album: Miracles In December'. It moved 218.000 copies in its initial week and it's the best-selling album in Asia at the moment. Another South Korean idol group, Girls'
Generation, arrives at no.12 with 'Love & Peace' and 129.000 sales. The set is available in two different languages, a Korean and a Chinese version. Both versions were added. Two slots higher at no.10 R&B legend R.Kelly is back with his twelfth studio album 'Black Panties' and 134.000 sales. R.Kelly's career peak was the third album, simply titled as 'R.' (1998), which sold more than 12 million copies to date. Another notable album is Michael Bublé's 'Christmas', which holds no.7 with another 162.000 sales, a total of 835.000 this year (since week 2, 2013) and a total of exactly 8 million since its release in autumn 2011... the most successful Xmas album of the 21st century!
