Christie held a press conference on Tuesday (March 27) to encourage Springsteen to mount a Labour Day weekend concert at Atlantic City's new resort Revel in September as a boost for the state.
"Cut out Labour Day weekend and come here to Revel, which would be a strong sign of support for those working men and women," the governor urged, reports The AP.
Springsteen's representative declined to comment on Governor Christie's request.
The 'We Take Care of Our Own' singer and his E Street Band will be touring in the US and Europe throughout the spring and summer, but they currently have no concerts scheduled for September.
The $2.4bn resort has been developed as a means to help reinvigorate Atlantic City's economy and will officially open on April 2.
Beyoncé will headline her first live concerts of the year at Revel in May.
